Privacy Policy
How the MUAA Alumni app handles your information
This policy explains what the Miami Union Adventist Academy (MUAA) Alumni Association app collects, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have — including deleting your account and data from inside the app.
1Who we are
The MUAA Alumni app is the official app of the Miami Union Adventist Academy Alumni Association, a community for graduates and friends of the Academy. This policy covers the iOS and Android mobile app. Questions? Reach us at info@muasda.org.
2Information we collect
We collect only what the app needs to work. Here is the whole picture:
| What | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account & profile | Email, name, class year, city, short bio, profile photo | Create your account, show you in the alumni directory, personalize the app |
| Content you create | Posts, photos, chat messages, comments, reactions, event RSVPs | Power the feed, chat, gallery, and events you use |
| Safety signals | Reports and blocks you submit, photo-tag consent | Keep the community safe and let you control who reaches you |
| Usage & analytics | Screens viewed, in-app actions, a random session ID | Understand what’s used and improve the app |
| Diagnostics | Crash and error reports, device/OS type | Find and fix bugs and crashes |
| Push token | A device notification token (only if you turn on notifications) | Deliver notifications you opt into |
| Location | Only the city you type in yourself | Show your city in your profile / on the directory map |
What we do not collect: we do not read your device’s precise GPS location, your contacts, or your photo library beyond the images you choose to upload, and we do not use any advertising identifier.
Payments & donations
Donations are not enabled in this version of the app. If giving is turned on in a future update, payments are processed by Stripe and we never see or store your full card number.
3How we use your information
- Run the alumni community — the directory, feed, chat, events, and your profile.
- Keep it safe — review reports, honor blocks, and moderate content that breaks the rules.
- Improve the app — understand which features are used and fix what’s broken.
- Communicate with you — respond to support requests and, if you opt in, send notifications.
We rely on your consent (which you give by creating an account and can withdraw by deleting it) and on our legitimate interest in operating a safe, working alumni community.
5Tracking & advertising
The app does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, shows no ads, and uses no advertising or cross-app identifiers (no IDFA / ATT tracking). Our analytics are first-party and used only to operate and improve this app.
6Your choices & rights
- Edit your profile anytime from the Profile screen.
- Control your directory visibility in Settings.
- Block or report members from any post, message, or profile.
- Turn notifications on or off in Settings and your device.
- Access, correct, or delete your information — see the next section, or email us.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (for example under GDPR or the CCPA/CPRA). To exercise them, contact info@muasda.org.
7Deleting your account
You can permanently delete your account from inside the app: go to Settings → Delete account. This removes your profile, posts, photos, chat identity, and settings from our systems, and revokes your chat access. You can also request deletion by emailing info@muasda.org.
8How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your data promptly; residual copies may remain briefly in encrypted backups or where the law requires us to retain records, after which they are deleted.
9Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls, and database row-level security so members can only reach what they’re permitted to. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your data and to respond quickly to any issue.
10Children
The app is intended for alumni and members of the MUAA community and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13; if you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we’ll revise the effective date at the top and, for material changes, notify you in the app. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
